Brian feels lucky he found a passion so early in his life. Watching Jacques Cousteau and crew on television ignited a life-long interest in diving and the sea. He taught himself to snorkle in the local lakes, which led to a birthday gift of diving lessons.

After many years of local diving, a trip to Cozumel peaked Brian's family's interest in diving. Brian, wife Connie, and son Russell, now enjoy diving together, although Connie prefers warm water to wreck diving in Lake Michigan.

Dive trips alone couldn't satisfy Brian's need for diving so he turned to local diving for his diving fix. Dry suit training allowed him to stay longer in the deep, cool water of the quarries and the Great Lakes. Longer and deeper dives lead Brian to take technical diving courses including Decompression Procedures, Advanced Nitrox, and Tri-Mix. Brian's interest in remote, deep, wreck diving lead him to complete his latest training in the use of the Inspiration Closed Circuit Rebreather (CCR). Brian is now learning to master this uniquely enabling technology.

Brian's interest in teaching grew out of attending Scuba Dive and Travel's dive weekends and other events. As he watched the "newbies" and saw their excitement when they accomplished new skills and generally just having a great time, reminded him of his first diving experience. Brian wanted to be a part of people's first dive experience, so he enrolled in a Dive Master course. Leading dives and assisting with classes quickly convinced him to become an instructor. He's been adding specialties to teach ever since, including: Wreck, Deep, Navigation, Dry Suit, Nitrox and very specialized instructor training to teach disabled divers.

After twenty-eight years of diving, Brian is still passionate about the sport and seeks to learn something new from every dive. The excitment he felt watching Cousteau has never diminished.
