Drew Gerling - Instructor
Drew was introduced to Scuba diving as a freshman at Luther College in Decorah, IA. He has been a certified diver for over 11 years and an instructor for 3 years. Drew is a SDI and PADI Instructor and has worked for Scuba Dive and Travel since becoming an instructor. Drew also holds certifications from the National Association for Cave Diving as a Cave Diver and from Technical Diving International in various wreck and extended range diving practices.
Drew is most proud of his work with Scuba Diving International in the development of their Scubabilty certification program. Scubabilty is a certification program for divers with special needs. Drew was one of the first few instructors worldwide to earn his Scubabilty Instructor certification. Drew is the only instructor in the world to certify a ventilator dependent, quadriplegic diver with Muscular Dystrophy. Through his work with SDI and their Scubabilty Program, Drew has appeared in numerous nationwide and local television programs and magazines discussing special needs diving techniques. These programs include The Today Show on NBC, Fox 9 News in Minneapolis, WCCO News in Minneapolis, Scuba Diving Magazine, Sport Diver Magazine, DivePortal DVD Magazine, Dive Chronicles Magazine, The St. Paul Pioneer Press, The Minneapolis Star Tribune and Florida Scuba News.
When he is not underwater, Drew is a financial planner for Thrivent Financial in Minneapolis. His favorite places to dive include Lake Superior, the Florida Springs, Hawaii and Bonaire.
