Russell has always been around and in the water. Whether it was water-skiing, sailing, competitive swimming or free-diving, Russell was interested in learning and mastering new skills.

At the age of twelve, Russell completed his Open Water dives in Cozumel and his first dives after certification were spent at 80 feet cruising the coral heads of Santa Rosa and Palancar. Many more family dive trips to the Keys, Bonaire, and of course Cozumel, gave Russell plenty of practice to hone his skills. Local diving followed with wreck diving in Lakes Michigan and Superior.

Russell successfully completed several technical dive classes including: Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Diving, Tri-mix, and most recently the Inspiration Closed Circuit Rebreather (CCR). Russell studies the latest diving technologies and is always willing to discuss the newest rebreathers, computers or decompression algorithms.

As a Red Cross trained Life Guard, Russell also worked summers at local beaches and water parks. These activities gave Russell specialized training in Professional Lifesaving techniques which he continued by obtaining his Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. In addition to teaching many Open Water Specialties, Russell also teaches CPR, First Aid and Oxygen delivery classes, as well as receiving specialized instructor training to teach disabled divers.

Russell has worked part-time in the shop over the past several years, and is certified to blend technical diving mixes. Russell is leading a trip to Curacao this year and has his sights on kelp diving in California in the near future.
